Sadler Teapot
James Sadler & Sons Ltd. : The Famous Teapot Manufacture over the Last Century
James Sadler Teapots – A Heritage of Fine English Pottery
For more than a century, James Sadler & Sons Ltd. represented the heart of English teapot craftsmanship. Founded in 1882 in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent — the historic center of the UK pottery industry — the company became world-renowned for producing some of the finest Bone China and earthenware teapots.
From the classic Brown Betty teapot to whimsical novelty and collectible designs, James Sadler combined function, artistry, and tradition. Each piece reflected the charm of English tea culture, with beautifully hand-painted patterns, intricate shapes, and distinctive backstamps that today help collectors identify authentic Sadler creations.
A Timeless Classic, Now Discontinued
After over 100 years of production, James Sadler & Sons Ltd. sadly went into receivership in 2000. The brand was later acquired by Churchill China, which continued to release a few limited-edition Sadler teapots for collectors.
However, new production has now been discontinued, and original Sadler teapots are no longer made. Today, these pieces are considered highly collectible, appreciated for their quality, artistry, and connection to Britain’s rich ceramic heritage.
